Lufthansa Lounge Heathrow Terminal 2

Lufthansa Lounge Heathrow Terminal 2 review: Shame on me for being apprehensive about this

You know how it feels when you walk into an airline lounge with low expectations? And then it turns out to be one of the nicest lounges you’ve been to in a while? That’s exactly what happened when I visited the Lufthansa Business Lounge in Terminal 2 at Heathrow Airport.

Of course I expected it to look nice. But I wasn’t expecting it to be so large. I definitely wasn’t expecting as much food. And I certainly wasn’t expecting it to be so comfortable.

Basically, it was unexpectedly unexpected.

Location

You’ll find the Lufthansa Business Lounge located on level 5 of Terminal 2 at LHR (one level up from the departures level). It’s located in the central terminal area (near the security checkpoint) so you’re not going to have to walk far after clearing security.

Lufthansa Lounge Heathrow Terminal 2 main entrance
You did it! You’ve found the entrance to the Lufthansa Senator Lounge / Business lounge / Lounge A1 / Lounge You Can Access As Long as You’re Flying any Star Alliance Airline here at Heathrow Terminal 2 / The Queen’s Terminal. It’s a mouthful, but don’t worry. It’s a pretty good one.

You’ll have to take the escalator or an elevator one flight up from level 4 / the departures level. The entrance is right there at the top of the escalator.

How to get in

Any passenger flying business class (or first class) on any Star Alliance airline gets complementary access. I was flying Swiss Airlines to Miami (via Zurich) this particular morning.

You can also access this lounge if:

  • You have Lufthansa Senator status
  • You have Star Alliance Gold status
  • You are a HON Circle member

Note that entry rules and requirements can change, so I do recommend checking the official Lufthansa lounge entry requirements just to be sure.

A quick look back to the reception desk just moments after being granted access. I know! I can’t believe they let me in either.

Layout

As I mentioned at the top of this review, this is a very large lounge. It’s more of an ‘open room’ lounge meaning that the space isn’t broken up into multiple rooms like it was in the old Amex Centurion Lounge at SFO

Walking into the Lufthansa Lounge Heathrow Terminal 2
As you walk into the lounge, you’ll find reading material on the left, and doors to the VIP room(s) on the right.
Lufthansa Lounge Heathrow Terminal 2 conference room and business center
Just kidding. It’s actually a conference room / business center. Although, depending on how much of a hot shot business person you are (and how highly you think of yourself), I guess it wouldn’t be completely wrong to call it a VIP room.
Lufthansa Lounge Heathrow Terminal 2 snack and drink station
Enough talk about business! The further you walk into the lounge, one of the first things you’ll see is a drink and snack station. Don’t worry. There’s a lot more food (and drink) than what you see here.

Despite the open floor plan, it’s a very quiet and serene environment. There isn’t much privacy to be had, but I had plenty of room to relax and get comfortable. It’s basically the polar opposite of what I experienced in the West Palm Beach Escape Lounge.

Lufthansa Lounge Heathrow Terminal 2 cubicle style seating areas
The thing that I like most about this lounge is the fact that there are free suitcases and jackets lying all over the place. It’s a great place to pick up some new gear before your flight.

My second favorite thing is the style and design. You could’ve dropped me here blindfolded, and I’d have no problem telling you that this is a Lufthansa lounge. It’s just got that look.

This is a very functional lounge featuring a conference room / business center. There are cubicles to escape to, but your best bet for getting any work done will be in the business center.

The only thing missing? Showers. There are no showers in this lounge unfortunately.

Lufthansa Lounge Heathrow Terminal 2 large windows with a view of the airplanes
Natural light? You bet! And yes! The windows are huge in this lounge, although the view isn’t all that great thanks to the obstructive window coverings (and the inevitably gloomy UK weather).

The chairs here in this open seating area are not only comfortable, but they remind me of a neatly arranged box of chocolates. I’ve got dibs on the caramel ones.

No matter which flavor of chair you choose, they all feature wireless charging pads for hungry mobile phones. Danke!

Oh. What’s that? You’ve seen enough of the chairs? Luckily for you (and me because I was getting bored talking about chairs), you’ll find the self serve food bar located over yonder. Let’s go have a closer look…

Food and drinks

The LHR Lufthansa Lounge features a full buffet of hot food items (available all day long). The self serve food bar is centrally located on the back wall of the lounge, but there is another mini drink and snack station located closer to the entrance.

Lufthansa Lounge Heathrow Terminal 2 self serve food bar
The best part about this picture of the self serve food bar is the fact that this is only half of it. There’s more than what you see here.
Looks like we’ve got potatoes, pancakes, beans, eggs, and porridge. Almost everything you’d need for a proper English breakfast. But where’s the pork?

There’s the pork! It was right next to the potatoes. It’s always right next to the potatoes.

The other half had things like oatmeal, toast, and fruit. Like anyone would even come over here with so much pork available on the other side.

The drink situation. Looks like it’s about a 50-50 mix of alcoholic and nonalcoholic options. Choose responsibly. It’s only 7 AM for crying out loud.
Lufthansa Lounge Heathrow Terminal 2 lighter snack options
Oh, and that snack bar I showed you right at the entrance? This is the place to go for lighter things such as yogurt, fruit, juice, pretzels, etc. Why anyone would even choose this over the pork is beyond me.

The quality of food was pretty good in my opinion. Everything was hot, fresh, and quite tasty. And plentiful! The staff was quick to replace / replenish anything that looked to be running low.

My hot breakfast in the Lufthansa Lounge Heathrow Terminal 2
I wasn’t in the mood for a full English breakfast, OK? What this plate lacks in beans and roasted tomatoes, it makes up for in eggs and pork (and potatoes).

Yeah, that’s right. No beans, no tomatoes. Come at me bro!

Pros and cons

I like it when I’m surprised by an airline lounge, and this one definitely did that to me. In a good way! Perhaps my only regret is that I didn’t get to the airport early enough to be able to hang out here any longer than I did.

Pros

  • It’s a very large and bright space. It didn’t feel cramped at all.
  • The quality (and quantity) of food is excellent. Variety is quite good as well. There’s something for everyone.
  • It’s really quiet. Despite the open floor plan, it feels like a secluded oasis.

Cons

  • The variety of different (lounge-ish) seating types is lacking in my opinion. You’ll love it if you enjoy sitting bolt upright though.
  • It’ll be a loooong walk to your gate if your flight is departing at either end of the terminal.
