Plaza Premium Lounge Singapore

Plaza Premium Lounge Singapore review: I prefer hanging out (and eating) in the main terminal actually

Yes, there is a Plaza Premium Lounge at the Singapore Changi Airport (SIN). No, it’s not as impressive as one might think considering how amazing the rest of the airport is.

At least it’s quiet with a wide variety of private seating options. The food is pretty good as well. Just know that you’ll find a wider variety of much better food (and culture) from the food court in the main terminal.

Location

The Singapore Plaza Premium Lounge is located in the International Departures area of Terminal 1 (one level up from departure gates).

Lounge ho! Yup, that’s the Plaza Premium Lounge straight ahead (between the duty-free shops and up the escalator).

It’s fairly centrally located (about an eight minute walk once clearing the security checkpoint). Note that you will have to walk past a very good smelling food court to reach it. Doing so may result in you scrubbing plans to visit this lounge altogether. It’s okay. It happens.

Perhaps the best thing about this lounge the fact that it’s not hoity-toity enough for the patrons to look down on the peons below with a superiority complex. It’s a nice lounge, but it’s not that nice.

I’m not even at the main entrance yet and I can already smell the grilled fish and potato chips. Let’s do this!

How to get in

Plaza Premium Lounges are some of the easiest airport lounges to get into. But wait! Before you reach up to high five the person sitting next to you in celebration of this fact, just know that easy access = a higher chance of overcrowding. Just sayin’.

Access is available to:

  • Plaza Premium Lounge members
  • Priority Pass members (which is how I got in, thanks to a complimentary membership via my Amex Platinum Card).
  • Anyone willing to pay a one time entrance fee (which at the time of this writing is approximately SGD $50).

Layout

Unlike the Vancouver Plaza Premium Lounge I recently visited, the one here in Singapore is larger and more varied in both layout. This is a multi room lounge with both open and enclosed seating areas.

Plaza Premium Lounge Singapore layout
This is neither a plaza, nor is it premium. It is, however, a fairly nice retreat from the chaos of the terminal below. I’m especially digging these semi-private cubicles.

The first thing you’ll see once passing the reception desk is the self-service food bar. Adjacent to that is a cafeteria style seating area. Eat there if you must, but I recommend finding a seat in one of the enclosed pods opposite of the food buffet.

Fact: a majority of the seating options in this lounge are private. Speaking of private places to do gross things, that’s the entrance to the showers straight ahead. Shower reservations can be made at the front desk BTW.

Look at me being all introverted and antisocial. This is my kind of airport lounge!
Plaza Premium Lounge Singapore dim light and low ceilings
OK, yeah, the ceilings are low and it’s about as bright as a funeral home in here, but gosh darn it I’m really liking these high partitions in the main seating area. Eating in peace FTMFW.

There’s also a nice patio area that overlooks terminal. Opposite of that is a larger open air seating area for those who may not like the dark and confined feeling of the main space.

Food and drinks

The amount of food available during my 7 PM visit seemed a bit lackluster compared to other Plaza Premium Lounges I’ve been in. I arrived expecting to find a full spread with a plethora of both hot and cold food to choose from.

What I found was a huge salad bar with what looked like a complete afterthought of limited hot food items. It was enough to make a full dinner out of, but let’s be real. The food court (just a stones throw away from this lounge) would’ve been a much better place to get dinner.

“Hey everyone let’s go to the lounge and eat salad!” – Said nobody ever, but here we are.

Thankfully there are hot food options as well. On the menu this evening was grilled fish, roasted chicken, and herb potatoes.
Plaza Premium Lounge Singapore alcohol and snack selection
Admit it. This wouldn’t be the first time in your life that you’ve made a meal out of potato chips, dry cereal, and vodka. Anyone who has been to college has done this at least once.

Although there is no bar in this lounge, alcohol is available in limited amounts. There’s not much but at least they’ve got the basics.

Zooming out a bit to get a better look at all of the drinks (both alcoholic and nonalcoholic) available. That green stuff was spectacular.

“Hey everyone let’s go to the lounge and eat salad!” In my defense, it looked awfully fresh and I just couldn’t resist.

Pros and cons

This is a fairly decent Plaza Premium Lounge. However, Terminal 1 at the Singapore Airport is so amazing that I never feel the need to visit a lounge whenever I’m there. It’s more comfortable (and delicious) out in the main terminal IMHO.

Pros

  • It may not look like it at first, but this is a fairly large lounge with plenty of room to spread out.
  • Private seating areas everywhere!
  • It’s extremely quiet. I’ve been to this lounge multiple times over the years, and it has always been as quiet as a library.

Cons

  • The interior sections of this lounge are dark and dreary. I don’t mind, but you probably won’t like it if you crave natural light.
  • The food may be free, but there’s not much of it.
  • The selection of alcohol is limited as well. Connoisseurs of craft whiskey and fine wine will have much to pout about.
